NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After one day of competition at a two-day tri-meet against SUNY Geneseo (3-3) and the Rochester Institute of Technology (2-3) on Friday evening at Elting Pool, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team (6-2) leads the pack. The Hawks hold an 89-57 edge over Geneseo and a 115-31 advantage over RIT.

New Paltz won seven of the eight events contested, and on two occasions, the Hawks boasted 1-2 finishes.

Junior Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) led the way with two individual event wins, edging teammate Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown) in the 100 butterfly by .03 seconds with a time of 1:01.09 and pacing the field in the 200 individual medley with a 2:18.42 standard. Suzuka and sophomore Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) also had standout meets, as Suzuka won the 100 backstroke (59.52) and placed second in the 100 butterfly (1:01.12), while Allocco won the 1,650 freestyle (18:15.28) and finished second in the 200 individual medley (2:19.18).

Allocco's time in the 1,650 freestyle erased the former pool record of 18:42.67, which Jessica Lester of New Paltz set back in 2009.

The Hawks swept all three relays. The 800 freestyle relay team of senior Christine Rieth (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder), sophomore Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton), freshman Katherine Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) and Allocco edged Geneseo's contingent by just more than a second (8:02.61), the 200 freestyle relay quartet of junior Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), Scalise, junior Anna Jakubek (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) and Rieth won with a time of 1:40.64 and the 200 medley relay foursome of Suzuka, Jakubek, Marshall and Allocco touched at an event-best 1:51.47.

New Paltz's 200 freestyle relay eclipsed the facility record in the event (1:41.47), which was set by the Hawk relay team of Lown, Allison Wells, Becky Baker and Rieth last season.

Action resumes tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Elting Pool.
