An exciting and extremely competitive Intramural Men's Basketball season came to a close last night as the final three games of the season took place. A ton of talent was on display and the games surely did not disappoint those in attendence.
In game 1, #1 seeded Premature Shooters took out the #4 seeded Diamonds in the Rough. The match-up featured two previously undefeated teams but in the end Premature Shooters proved why they were the #1 seed as they won 44-39. Premature Shooters were led by Matt Rooney who scored 19 points. What proved to be the difference was the total team effort from the rest of the team with Pete Carmel, Fritz Jacques, and Ryan Sawyer chipping in 9,8, and 9 respectfully. Davion Lloyd did his best to keep Diamonds in the Rough in the game by scoring 16 points but his efforts weren't enough.
Game 2 saw the Runnas handle Club Basketball 50-42. This game was never really in doubt with the Runnas always holding a solid 6 to 12 point advantage. Shereef Taylor paced all scorers with 24 points for the Runnas and Dan Olson added 13 more. Omar Samuel tried to match Taylor up and down the court scoring wise but his strong 20 point night was not enough for Club Basketball.
The Championship game saw the two top players in the league squaring off as Matt Rooney and the Premature Shooters took on Shereef Taylor and the Runnas. The undefeated #1 seeded Premature Shooters looked to close out the season however Taylor proved why he was the MVP of the league as he threw the Runnas on his back and carried them to this championship. Taylor scored a game high 29 points and Dan Olson chipped in 16 more to lead the Runnas to a 59-50 victory. Matt Rooney's 23 point night helped keep it close up not close enough.
