ROCHESTER, N.Y. – After one day of competition in a two-day tri-meet with SUNY Geneseo and the Rochester Institute of Technology at RIT on Friday night, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team leads both squads. The Hawks hold a 79.5-69.5 cushion over Geneseo and a 110-46 edge over RIT.
New Paltz won two relays on day one. The 800 freestyle relay contingent of freshman

Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) and junior
Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) charted a winning time of 7:58.41, while the 200 freestyle relay team of senior
Katina Lown (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot), freshman
Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), Griger and Scalise posted the event's top standard of 1:40.35. To boot, the 200 medley relay squad of senior
Yuka Suzuka (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Yorktown), sophomore
Colleen Stewart (Shelton, Conn./Shelton), senior
Carly Marshall (Cornwall, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and Scalise took second with a 1:53.64.
Suzuka was a double-event winner individually, touching first in the 200 individual medley (2:14.89) and the 100 backstroke (1:00.54). Graffin won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.00, while Allocco topped the field in the 1,650 freestyle (18:28.88).
Second-place finishes were registered by Marshall in the 100 butterfly (1:01.20) and Allocco in the 200 individual medley (2:16.74).
New Paltz finishes up action at the meet tomorrow at 1 p.m.
