BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team beat SUNY Oswego in the quarterfinal round of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Tennis Championship Tournament for the third year in a row, defeating the Lakers, 5-0, at the Binghamton Tennis Center on Friday.

New Paltz, the East Division's top seed, will face SUNY Cortland tomorrow at 2 p.m. Oswego, the West Division's No. 4 seed, faces The College at Brockport in the consolation bracket tomorrow at 5 p.m.

New Paltz rises to 7-3 overall, while Oswego falls to 4-8.

The Hawks led at all six singles flights when the match was halted. Per the format used at the NCAA Championships, the first team to five points wins the match.

New Paltz swept through doubles easily, with the No. 1 doubles tandem of senior Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and junior Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) leading the way with an 8-0 victory. Junior Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and freshman Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) won, 8-1, at flight two doubles, while sophomore Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) and freshman Maryann Badura (Harriman, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) prevailed, 8-1, at flight three.

Schmidt captured a 6-0, 6-2 victory at flight four singles, while freshman Elizabeth Palmer (Woodstock, N.Y./Cazenovia) topped her opponent, 6-0, 6-1, at flight six.
