PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Down 3-0 at halftime, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team scored the first goal of the second half to cut into the SUNY Plattsburgh lead, but the Hawks couldn't convert on any other of their other five shots on goal, falling to the Cardinals 3-1 in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game on Saturday afternoon at Field House Complex.

Trailing 3-0 at intermission, freshman defender Kaite Mulry (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), scored her first intercollegiate goal off a feed from junior forward Sarah Painter (Blue Point, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point), to put a squeeze on the hosts. Mulry's goal was a top-notch strike from seven yards out into the top part of the goal. The Hawks would test Plattsburgh goalie Kristy Kirkpatrick on five subsequent occasions in the second half, but the junior goalie was up to the task and stopped each. She had six saves in the game.

The Hawks (2-9-3, 0-5-1 SUNYAC), look to rebound with an away contest against Drew on October 16 at 7:00 p.m. Plattsburgh (4-7-2, 2-2-1) travels to Buffalo State for a 3:00 p.m. game on October 18.

Plattsburgh garnered the game's first three goals, the first two coming in the opening 12 minutes of play. Sophomore midfielder Cammey Keyser and freshman midfielder Heather Marko each scored their first goals of the season at the 2:07 and 12:08 marks respectively. Keyser was able to slip behind the New Paltz defense, got a one-on-one against Hawks sophomore keeper Krysten Kane (Macedon, N.Y./Wayne Central) and had a tap-in from two yards out. Marko's goal was redirected off a header in front of the goal.

Plattsburgh earned an insurance goal at the 38 minute mark when freshman forward Vicky Scott knocked home a short shot from five feet out. For the Hawks, Kane made five saves in facing 21 Plattsburgh shots.

Sophomore forward Chelsea Weir (West Islip, N.Y.) was particularly offensive minded for the Hawks, earning six shots in the game, which represents a season high, surpassing the five shots she registered against Guilford College.
