SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team won its 18th and 19th straight matches on Saturday during the Skidmore Invitational, topping Kean University, 3-0 (25-13, 25-16, 25-21), before knocking off host Skidmore College, 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22). Senior setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) became the program's new all-time leader in assists in the nightcap against Skidmore.

King finished the weekend with 4,449 career assists to her credit, which are all the more impressive considering that she has played in an era of women's volleyball where sets go to 25 instead of 30. Katie Becofsky achieved the former career program record of 4,434 from 2004-07.

New Paltz went 3-0 at the tournament, as it downed Union (N.Y.) College in five sets on Friday night. Senior libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) was named the Tournament MVP, while King was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

New Paltz, which is now 31-5 overall, now turns its attention to the 2013 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament. The top-seeded Hawks will host the tournament from Friday-Sunday, Nov. 8-10, at the Hawk Center, and they will match up with either fourth-seeded SUNY Plattsburgh or fifth-seeded SUNY Potsdam in the semifinal round on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 6 p.m. Kean drops to 21-13 overall and meets up with Rutgers University-Camden next in the opening round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Skidmore moves to 11-18 overall and saw its season come to an end on Saturday.

Against Kean, junior outside hitter Alex Bizub (Linden, N.J./Cranford) led the way with nine kills and a .471 hitting percentage, as the Hawks hit at a .258 clip as a team. King dished out 31 assists, while Hack and junior outside hitter Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) tallied 17 and 15 digs, respectively.

Versus Skidmore, sophomore outside hitter Becca Borquist (Rhinebeck, N.Y./Rhinebeck) posted 11 kills and 13 digs for a double-double, while King doled out 35 assists to clinch the program's all-time record in the statistical category. Hack came up with 23 digs, while junior outside hitter Alli Coleman (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton Central) reinforced a productive Hawk front row with six total blocks (one solo, five assist).
