NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (11-3) picked up a 5-4 non-conference victory over Stevens Institute of Technology (8-7) on Wednesday at the North Tennis Courts.

Kayla DiPaulo (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) were defeated at No. 1 doubles, 8-6, by Stevens' Jessica Bourque and Lisa Tessitore. Junior
Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and sophomore
Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) also fell in their No. 2 doubles match, 8-4, to Danielle Stewart and Alexandra Hansel. Sophomore
Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and freshman Allison Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) grabbed a win at third doubles, beating Victoria Tran and Aleksandra Petelski, 8-1.
DiPaulo dropped her No. 1 singles match to Bourque, 6-3, 6-0, while Munroe took a 6-4, 7-5 straight set decision at No. 2 from Tessitore. Schmidt was unable to beat Stewart at No. 3, falling 6-1, 6-0, but freshman
Laura Tierney (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) won her first-ever fourth singles match, 6-4, 6-3, over Handel. Starke and Tracy helped the Hawks squeak out the win, defeating Tran and Petelski at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively, both by 6-0, 6-0 sweeps.
New Paltz plays another home match on Friday, April 12, against Ithaca College. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. That match is followed by another on Saturday, April 13, against Union (N.Y.) College, which is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
