POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team (5-2, 3-0 SUNYAC East) participated in the second day of the Vassar Scramble, hosted by Vassar College, on Sunday, competing against Vassar, New York University and Connecticut College in doubles play.
 
The Hawks competed in 11 doubles matches, compiling a record of 3-8 on the day. Senior Paige Munroe (Ann Arbor, Mich./Ann Arbor Pioneer) and junior Devin Tracy (Great River, N.Y./East Islip) were defeated in their first two matches, but bounced back to close their day with an 8-4 win over Connecticut College's Adrieene Sieverding and Susanna Studwell.
 
Junior Jessica Schmidt (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and freshman Veronika Paikin (North Woodmere, N.Y./George W. Hewlett) also dropped their matches against Vassar and NYU, but defeated Connecticut College's Aneeka Kalia and Charlotte Marcoux, 8-1, to finish their day.
 
Freshman Olivia Ammirati (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) and sophomore Allie Starke (Binghamton, N.Y./Susquehanna Valley) followed suit as well, going 1-2 on the day and defeating Connecticut College's Ellie Rudd and Monica Rohrbach, 8-3.
 
NYU went undefeated in doubles play on Sunday, while the host Brewers went undefeated against New Paltz and Connecticut College.
 
The Hawks return to action next weekend, when they participate in the ITA Northeast Regional Championships. ITA play begins Saturday, Sept. 28, at 8:30 a.m. in Geneva, N.Y.
