Field Hockey Bounces Back with 4-0 Shutout over Brockport

Box Score

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – After sustaining a loss to SUNY Geneseo on Friday, the State University of New York at New Paltz field hockey team (5-4, 2-1 SUNYAC) rebounded with a 4-0 victory over The College at Brockport (4-4, 0-2 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest at the Turf Field.

Sophomore defender Jessica Caruana (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) and senior forward Danielle Conklin (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) paced the Hawk offense with a goal and an assist each. Junior midfielder/defender Deirdre O'Neill (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and junior forward/midfielder Emily Vanacore (Shokan, N.Y./Onteora) also scored for New Paltz, while freshman forward/midfielder Kayla McKeveny (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem East) and senior forward Alicia Aragosa (Schenectady, N.Y./Niskayuna) each picked up assists.

Caruana buried a Conklin feed from the top of the circle on a penalty-corner attempt in the eighth minute, and O'Neill poked in a ball from McKeveny at 32:53 to give the Hawks a 2-0 lead at halftime. After inserting a corner in the 47th minute, Conklin crashed the cage and directed a pass from Caruana into the back of the goal. With less than two minutes remaining, Vanacore netted a marker off an Aragosa pass, and that spelled out the final score.

New Paltz outshot Brockport, 26-5, and took 23 penalty corners to the Golden Eagles' three.

Senior goalkeeper Antonija Pjetri (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern) drew the start in the cage for the Hawks, making two saves in 54:33 of action before sophomore goalkeeper Alayna Wageman (Getzville, N.Y./Williamsville North) closed out the contest. Lindsay Farrell posted 11 saves in the loss for Brockport.
