Men’s Swimming Falls, 113-87, to Oneonta

ONEONTA, N.Y. – Competing in its second dual meet in as many days, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team was unable to complete the weekend sweep, falling by a 113-87 final to SUNY Oneonta on Saturday after having beaten Mount Saint Mary College on Friday evening.
 
Senior Matt Distler (Glens Falls, N.Y./Glens Falls) was a double-event winner for the Hawks, touching first in the 50 freestyle (22.77) and the 100 freestyle (49.70).
 
New Paltz drops to 2-6 overall and competes at the Vassar Sprint Invitational on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. in its final tune-up before the 2014 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Swimming & Diving Championships. Oneonta moves to 5-2 overall and next competes as a full team on Saturday, Feb. 1, at 1 p.m. against SUNY Cortland.
 
Sophomore Ryan Lindgren (Hurley, N.Y./Kingston) also captured an individual event, pacing the field in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.30).
 
New Paltz scored first-place points in the 400 freestyle relay despite finishing second because Oneonta entered its relays as exhibition in the final event. Sophomore Rod Taskindoust (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North), sophomore Ethan Cooke (Middletown, Conn./Middletown), freshman Andrew Grant (Akron, N.Y./Akron) and Distler combined for a time of 3:22.98.
 
Second-place performances came from junior Jack Spader (Larchmont, N.Y./Mamaroneck) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:40.01) and Taskindoust in the 200 freestyle (1:53.24).
