Box Score 2 Tournament WebsiteCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The No. 2 State University of New York at New Paltz men's volleyball team remained undefeated in United Volleyball Conference (UVC) play on Saturday afternoon, beating D'Youville College, 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-13), and No. 7 Elmira College, 3-1 (25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22), on the first day of UVC Crossover No. 1 hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
New Paltz rises to 9-1 overall and 3-0 in the UVC, while D'Youville drops to 2-5 overall (0-3 UVC) and Elmira falls to 6-4 overall (1-2 UVC). On the final day of the first UVC Crossover of the season tomorrow, New Paltz faces No. 6 Nazareth College at 12:30 p.m., while D'Youville meets up with No. 13 MIT at 12:30 p.m. and Elmira squares off with Vassar at 12:30 p.m.
New Paltz 3, D'Youville 0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-13) New Paltz's match against D'Youville lasted all of 55 minutes, as the Hawks cruised to the straight-set sweep. The Hawks hit .358 for the match, while the Spartans posted a -.159 hitting percentage. Furthermore, New Paltz outgained D'Youville in total blocks (8-2) and service aces (10-1).
Of particular note was the Hawks' performance in the second set, as they hit .647 with 12 kills and just one error in 17 total attempts. The Hawks also made a statement in the third set, jumping out to an 11-0 lead that was capped off by a kill by junior setter

Victor Tuminelli (Dix Hills, N.Y./Half Hollow Hills West) came up with seven digs.
For D'Youville, junior libero Alex Johnson and junior middle blocker Evan Singer posted three kills apiece, while freshman outside hitter Collin McMahon provided nine assists. Junior outside hitter Steve Goedtel defended seven digs.
New Paltz 3, Elmira 1 (25-22, 26-24, 21-25, 25-22) Saturday's nightcap featured a much-anticipated match-up between two top-10 teams. The contest did not disappoint, as there were 32 tie scores and 13 lead changes throughout the match.
With New Paltz up 2-1 in sets won, Elmira looked to force a fifth set in the fourth and appeared on its way after mounting a 15-13 lead after a Hawk service error. Sophomore outside hitter
Tim Ferriter (Rochester, N.Y./West Irondequoit) posted two kills and freshman middle blocker
C.J. Borfitz (Inwood, N.Y./Lawrence) hammered down one to give the Hawks a 16-15 edge, and after a New Paltz service error locked the tally up at 16-all, the Hawks received back-to-back kills from sophomore middle blocker
Christopher Husmann (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa). After some back-and-forth play, New Paltz gained some separation after two Elmira attacking errors gave the Hawks a 23-21 lead, but the Soaring Eagles got a kill from sophomore middle hitter Andrew Johnson to draw within one. Ferriter then closed out the match with a kill and a block solo on consecutive points, as New Paltz eked out the decisive 25-22 victory in the fourth.
New Paltz hit .273 for the match, including a .536 mark in the fourth set, while Elmira hit .243. The Hawks outblocked the Soaring Eagles, 8-4, but Elmira fared better off the serve, totaling eight service aces to New Paltz's three.
Husmann keyed the Hawk attack with a match-high 16 kills and a .520 hitting percentage, while Ferriter added 12 kills. Sophomore setter
Christian Smith (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Lutjen doled out 26 and 18 assists, respectively, while Ferriter totaled four blocks. Lutjen reinforced the back row on defense with nine digs.
For Elmira, three players reached double figures in kills, led by 13 by senior outside hitter Ryan Gelenitis. Sophomore outside hitters Erik Griffin and Mike Ellison chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Senior setter Michael Vellutato kept the offense moving with 39 assists, while Griffin defended nine digs.
