Men's Volleyball Ava Yurchison, Athletic Communications Intern

Senior Spotlight: Five Questions with Kevin Nardone

New Paltz athletic communications intern Ava Yurchison caught up with senior Kevin Nardone of the New Paltz men's volleyball team for the week 14 release of the 2015-16 Senior Spotlight series that will have a new senior interviewed every Monday.

Q: Why did you choose to come to New Paltz?
A: "I was pretty set on attending a state school. I didn't see the value the in a state school that was a five-plus hour drive away, but I also didn't want anything that was commuter distance. So it was either here or Albany, and they didn't have a volleyball team. It was a tough decision, but I felt there was more I wanted to accomplish in the sport, and it ended up being one of the best decisions I have ever made."

Q: Who inspires you to be the player you are?
A: "I have a bunch of different heavy influences on my playing style due to the numerous coaches I have had over time. My high school coach definitely had a large impact on me along with some of my teammates, who helped me mature as a person and player. Additionally, my parents, who are also pretty good volleyball players, have helped me especially in regard to how to mentally attack the game."

Q: How do you juggle being a student and an athlete?
A: "I like trying to juggle it. I struggle with being bored, so I like going from activity to activity, and it helps me stay focused on what I am trying to achieve academically and athletically."

Q: What are you going to miss the most once you leave New Paltz?
A: "I am definitely going to miss the camaraderie of being on a team and our relationship with the other teams. It is always fun to see a group of 10-15 members of one team walk through the door at one of our games and see how much we support one another."

Q: What is your plan post graduation?
A: "I am just starting to apply to grad schools and jobs, so we will see what options are presented to me by May and take it from there."
