SUNY New Paltz Athletics

In 1972 the Vietnam War and civil rights movement created a chaotic environment on campus. The student government decided to cut funding of all collegiate athletics. Many discouraged athletes gave up on their seasons. Track and field formed a varsity club and raised enough money to continue having a team. Their passion and hard work reflected on others and eventually there was enough funding for other sports teams.
