COCOA, FL- The New Paltz baseball team fell in a doubleheader against Richard Stockton Wednesday morning, 6-5 in game one and 11-4 in the nightcap. The Hawks fall to 3-4 overall while Richard Stockton improves to 6-4.
The Ospreys opened the scoring in the bottom of the first with three runs. Marc Asta singled home Chris Discher after Discher led the inning off with a walk and advanced to third on a Barry Larro single. Larro later scored on a pass ball to give the Ospreys a 2-0 lead. Asta would scored on balk two batters later.
The Hawks would get two back in the second when Michael Marash RBI single scored
Clinton Boettcher who led the inning off with a single. Matt O'Neill was the second run to cross the plate in the inning, scoring on a pass ball after walking and advancing to third on Marash's single.
In the fourth, O'Neill singled and Marash followed with a double to put two runners in scoring position.
Philip Parker grounded to the second baseman who committed an error that allowed O'Neill to score as the Hawks tied the score at 3-3.
The Hawks took the lead in the fifth when
Mike Sherlock led the inning off with a single and then stole second. Boettcher single to move Sherlock up to third. Two pitches later, the Hawks put on a double steal as Boettcher took second and Sherlock stole home on the throw.
Richard Stockton came right back with one run in the bottom of the fifth when Asta doubled home Discher from second. Discher led the inning off with a single and stole second. Then in the sixth, the Ospreys scored one to take the lead when Chris Wedding singled home Matt Allen from second.
The Hawks tied the game in the seventh when O'Neill singled home
Dylan Franco from second who was pinch running for
Steve Pinckney.
In the bottom of the inning, Asta double to lead the inning off and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a walk, Jason Gordon struck out, but reached first on a pass ball that allowed Asta to score from third for the game winning run.
Boettcher finished 2-for-3 with one run and O'Neill was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Marash was 3-for-4 from the plate with one RBI.
Marc Asta was 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI and Chris Wedding was 2-for-3 with one RBI for the Ospreys.
Starter
Chris Chismar went five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and striking out five for a no decision.
Pat Sylvester pitched one inning and allowed one run on two hits while striking out one. Boettcher took the loss on the mound in only one third of an inning allowing one hit and one run while striking out one and walking one.
Bryan Frank went six innings allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and striking out five while allowing five walks. John Lightbody earned the win on the mound in a inning of work allowing one run on one hit.
In the nightcap, the Ospreys scored six runs in the fourth en route to a 11-4 victory. Chris Discher was 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI and Chris Wedding was 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Mike Wasco was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI and Nick Scalise was 2-for4 with two runs and one RBI.
Joel Judson was 3-for-3 with one run and
Paul Merola was 1-for-2 with one run and two RBI, including his first collegiate homerun. Boettcher hit his second bomb of the year as he finished 2-for-3 from the plate with one run and one RBI.
Tristan Greene took the loss on the mound, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits, walking three and striking our one over three and two third innings.
Kyle Ochiuzzo pitched one and one third inning in relief allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits and striking out one.
Thomas Pinnola continued to pitch well in his second relief appearance of the year, as he pitched two perfect innings while striking out one.
Mark Crescenzi earned the win on the mound, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits and striking out five over six innings of work. Gage Mick pitched one inning of relief and allowed one hit.
