Wounded Warrior Project Baseball Doubleheader (April 20, 2013)
On Saturday, April 20,
the New Paltz baseball team hosted the department's second-ever Wounded Warrior Project event, which honored U.S. military veterans. The event raised $582, all of which was donated to the Wounded Warrior Project
Special Olympics Unified Basketball Tournament (March 10, 2013)
On Sunday, March 10,
the New Paltz Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its second annual Special Olympics Unified Basketball Tournament at Elting Gym. Within this Special Olympics event 12 teams participated within four divisions with three teams in each division. Among them were 11 New Paltz SAAC student-athletes who played on two of teams within the teamed divisions. After their outstanding efforts on the court, each team was awarded with either a gold, silver or bronze medal.
Hour of Power (Nov. 14, 2012)
On Tuesday, Nov. 13, the
New Paltz men's and women's swimming programs joined thousands of athletes across the country in jumping into the pool in support of Carleton College's Ted Mullin “Leave it in the Pool Hour of Power” Relay. Over the first six years of this nationwide—and worldwide—event, participants raised over $330,000 to support research at the University of Chicago into the causes and treatment of sarcoma, a rare soft-tissue cancer, in young people.
2012 SAAC Leaf Rake (Nov. 4, 2012)
On Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012,
New Paltz's varsity athletics teams participated in the annual Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leaf Rake, raking leaves at 14 different properties in New Paltz, N.Y. The aim of the project is to aid senior citizens in clearing their properties of leaves, and the initiative began approximately seven years ago. Members of SAAC were instrumental in the planning of the event.
Wounded Warrior Project Men's Soccer Game (Oct. 13, 2012)
On Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, the
New Paltz men's soccer team honored heroes by hosting the department's inaugural Wounded Warrior Project Game. All proceeds from the event, which were $1,350 in total, were donated to the Wounded Warrior Project. The day featured appearances by the New York Division of Military and Naval Affairs color guard and the Patriot Brass Band, which played patriotic numbers at halftime.
