A large part of the student-athlete experience at the State University of New York at New Paltz is service within the community. This page chronicles some of the latest community service projects performed by New Paltz student-athletes.
Helping Out with New Paltz Youth Program (April 12, 2014)

On Saturday, April 12, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team helped out at the New Paltz Youth Program by assisting with the running of its 3-on-3 basketball tournament held at New Paltz Middle School.
The New Paltz student-athletes reffed the games, played the children of the New Paltz Youth Program in games of 2-on-2 and played games of knockout. All in all, the New Paltz men's basketball student-athletes enjoyed giving back to the community and helping out the community's youth.
Special Olympics Basketball Tournament (April 6, 2014)

On Sunday, April 6, the State University of New York at New Paltz's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted a Special Olympics-affiliated series of basketball games played in both the Elting Gym and the Hawk Center.
The 18 teams that competed were made up of New Paltz student-athletes, Special Olympics members and people associated with the Special Olympics Committee. The student-athletes in SAAC spent weekday nights practicing with these teams.
The teams competed throughout the day, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., completing a full bracket. Student-athletes were scattered around the Athletic & Wellness Center, taking on different jobs and inserting themselves into the Special Olympics community.
Wounded Warrior Project Game (Jan. 25, 2014)

On Saturday, Jan. 25, the State University of New York at New Paltz men's basketball team hosted a Wounded Warrior Project game against The College at Brockport, and all proceeds from the game went to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Servicemen and servicewomen were honored prior to tip-off, and head coach Mike Rejniak's wife, Kimmie, sang the national anthem in front of a color guard presenting the American flag. The team also wore camouflage tops during shootaround to further support the cause.
Think Pink Game (Jan. 24, 2014)
On Friday, Jan. 24, the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team hosted SUNY Geneseo in a Think Pink Game where all proceeds went to the American Cancer Society.
The team wore pink shootaround shirts during warm-ups in support of the Think Pink cause.
Helping Out at Queens Galley Soup Kitchen (Dec. 8, 2013)

The State University of New York at New Paltz softball team gave back to the community on Sunday, helping out at the Queens Galley soup kitchen in Kingston, N.Y. The softball team helped out at the lunch and dinner shifts, serving in a variety of roles.
The team helped cook, serve, clean up dishes, waitress, bus tables and perform preparation work for cooking.
Boxing Books at Elting Library (Sept. 26 & 29, 2013)
On Sunday, Sept. 29, approximately 25 State University of New York at New Paltz student-athletes helped close down Elting Library's annual Book Fair by getting all leftover books back in storage. There were hundreds of books that needed to be boxed, and then the boxes needed to be carried to the storage shed.
In addition, the New Paltz softball team helped set up the event on Thursday, Sept. 26.
Shoprite Help Bag Hunger Drive (Sept. 18, 2013)
On Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2013, various student-athletes visited Shoprite in New Paltz for the Help Bag Hunger Drive. As a part of the event, the student-athletes bagged groceries for an hour. The student-athletes went in two separate shifts, and the above picture is of the 11 a.m. shift.
