Gina Marotta, a native of New Windsor, N.Y., was inducted into the New Paltz Athletics Hall of Fame on Friday, Oct. 15, entering with the Class of 2010.
She enjoyed a stellar four-year career for the blue and orange, rewriting the record books as a second baseman. Still a prominent name in the annals of the Hawk softball program, Marotta ranks first all-time in runs scored (109), home runs (12) and triples (17). In addition, she boasts totals that rank second all-time in batting average (.442), hits (151), doubles (25), RBI (94) and slugging percentage (.719).
Throughout the course of her career at New Paltz, Marotta raked in myriad accolades. She was honored on the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) teams three times and gained National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Northeast Region recognition her senior season. In 1996 and 1998, she earned a spot on the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC)/Reebok Softball All-Star Team. At the department’s annual athletics award banquet following the 1997-98 academic year, she received the prestigious Carol Eckman Award, which recognizes the top female athlete at New Paltz.
Currently, she is the head athletic trainer with the Bloomsburg (Pa.) Area School District.
