Prospective Student-Athlete FAQ 
Q. How can I find out more information about a varsity athletic team?
A. Any student can contact the Head Coach directly either by calling them directly or emailing. Head Coaches contact information can be found on the NPHawks.com website.
Q. Do I have to be recruited to be on a team?
A. Generally speaking, yes, our varsity programs rosters are typically made up of recruited students who have played multiple years at the varsity level of High School as well as have played for high level club programs for numerous years.
If you have met the standards of varsity and club level play and are interested in finding out more about a specific program, please contact the Head Coach directly. Please be prepared to have video and other evidence of past participation documentation ready for the coach’s review. You can expect a response from the Head Coach prior to the beginning of the season.
Q. Do teams have tryouts?
A. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the challenges it has caused on many levels, our varsity programs are unable to offer tryouts for the 2020-21 academic year.
Q. What is the time commitment for participating on a varsity team?
A. In general, it is a six day a week commitment between practices and competitions. Teams practice for about 2 plus hours a day and may have additional time requirements for activities such as team meetings, Strength and Conditioning training and film sessions.
Q. What are the practice times for varsity teams?
A. They vary from sport to sport. Please contact head coach for anticipated practice schedules.
Q. What must I do to be cleared for participation?
A. There are a few steps that must be in place for this to happen:
- All potential student athletes must be listed on a team’s preliminary roster.
- Every student must have submitted the required Health Report which includes a Health Physical to the Student Health Services Office.
- Every potential student athlete must complete the Athletic Department’s online forms: Demographic form, Health History for and also provide Health Insurance Information. Directions to complete these forms will come from a notification by the Head Coach.
- Complete all required NCAA certifications. This will be handled by the Athletic Department Administration with assistance from Head Coach and Athletic Training Staff members. There will be scheduled “Administrative Days” for each varsity team and all student athletes will be notified of these dates and times.
Q. Can I miss class for practices?
A. No. It is an NCAA violation to miss class for practice. If you have a class conflict with a practice day or time, please notify the Head Coach of this as soon as possible.
Q. Can I miss class for a contest?
A. Yes, this is considered a legal absence per college policy. However, the Athletic Department will only grant three legal absences from a class for contests.
