Vega and the rest of the Hawks’ women’s soccer team saw their season end Saturday in the third round of the 2011 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Championship Tournament, 1-0, but not without giving top-ranked Messiah College a run for its money. Vega stopped 10 Falcon shots in the first 71 minutes of regulation before allowing the eventual game-winner at 71:57. Vega continued to keep the Hawks in the game, stopping another four scoring chances from Messiah, but New Paltz could not find its scoring touch against the number one team in the nation. Vega’s 14 saves rank fourth in program history for a single game. Her career-high is 16, set in 2010 against Scranton. This is Vega’s fourth New Paltz Athlete of the Week honor this season.
