Smith hit .300 in a 1-1 week for the Hawks, flooring 32 kills and 11 errors in 70 total attempts. He also played well defensively, coming up with 24 digs (2.67 per set). On Wednesday against Ramapo College, he hit at a .333 clip, landing 21 kills in the Hawks’ 3-2 win over the Roadrunners. In that match, he also collected 13 digs. On Saturday in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 UVC Championship Tournament against the fifth-ranked Stevens Institute of Technology, he came up with 11 kills and 11 digs, but New Paltz wound up losing in four sets to the Ducks. Smith hit .242 (175-69-438) for the season and averaged 1.48 digs per set (139 total). New Paltz (19-11, 6-5 UVC) earned the No. 7 seed into the UVC Championship Tournament for the second year in a row.
