Bowe (’87), a 1982 graduate of Martin Luther High School in Maspeth, N.Y., was enshrined in the State University of New York at New Paltz Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2012 alongside Joanna Masterson (’06), Bill Odeneal, Joe Sagula (’78) and the 1984, ’85 and ’86 men’s volleyball teams. The ceremony took place in the Student Union Building’s Multipurpose Room on Sept. 16.
Bowe enjoyed one of the most celebrated careers the New Paltz men's basketball program has seen in its history. A prolific scorer, Bowe ranks second all-time on the New Paltz basketball career scoring list (2,126), and a special basketball honoring this accomplishment rests in the trophy case in the lobby of the Athletic & Wellness Center. He also stands second all-time in single-season points with 621 in the 1985-86 campaign and sixth all-time with 521 in 1986-87.
Bowe picked up many awards in his four years in the Blue and Orange. In his strong 1985-86 season, he was selected to the All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) First Team and was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II/III All-District Second Team, making him the first of two Hawks to ever receive this honor. In 1987, he was an Honorable Mention All-SUNYAC selection. That same year, he received the Floyd Patterson Award, which recognizes him as the most outstanding male athlete of the year at New Paltz.
Bowe called his time at New Paltz a “great, great journey; an unbelievable ride.” He said his journey was finally completed with his enshrinement into the Hall of Fame. He stressed that he would not have gotten anywhere without his teammates and that he appreciates each and every one of them.
