Votypka hurled 4 2/3 innings in relief to help lift New Paltz to a SUNYAC series-clinching 4-3 win over top-ranked SUNY Cortland on Saturday in Leesburg, Fla., as a part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational. Entering into the game in the bottom of the fifth with one out and runners on first and second, Votypka forced the first batter he faced into a fielder's choice before striking out the next batter to end the inning. All told, Votypka did not allow any hits in his 4 2/3 frames of work and permitted just three base runners while striking out four. It marked the Hawks' first-ever SUNYAC series win over Cortland, which won the NCAA Division III national championship last year. On the year, Votypka ranks second on the team in strikeouts (13) while holding a 4.82 ERA in 9 1/3 innings of work. New Paltz (5-4-2, 2-1 SUNYAC) next contests the College of Mount Saint Vincent today at 3 p.m. at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.
