Women's Swimming Solid Throughout in Victory Over Oswego

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming team won 11 of 13 races en route to a solid 135-65 victory over visiting SUNY Oswego on Saturday afternoon at Elting Pool.

The Hawks, competing in only their second dual meet of the 2013-14 season, were proficient throughout the meet, having six different swimmers take top honors. The day's dual winner belonged to sophomore Cassidy Griger (Cooperstown, N.Y./Cooperstown Central), who won both the 50 freestyle (26.01) and the 500 freestyle (5:20.96).

The victory improves New Paltz to 2-0. Oswego drops to 3-2. The Hawks will travel to Vassar College next Saturday, Nov. 23, for a 1 p.m. meet while on the same day and time Oswego hosts The College at Brockport.

Junior Kat Buyes (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./John Jay) captured the 100 freestyle (57.50) and placed second in the 200 freestyle (2:05.56).

Senior Chelsea Allocco (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) won the 1,000 freestyle (10:57.54). Sophomore Maggie Heaton (New Milford, Conn./New Milford) won in the 200 freestyle (2:04.99). Junior Samantha Granan (Hyde Park, N.Y./Franklin D. Roosevelt) took honors in the 200 individual medley (2:19.95), sophomore Kim Kallansrude (Muttontown, N.Y./Jericho) was a winner in the 100 butterfly (1:01.98) and senior Victoria Scalise (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) took home the 100 backstroke (1:04.04).

The Hawks also took top honors in the 200 medley relay (1:56.26) with sophomore Casey O'Connor (New Fairfield, Conn./New Fairfield), teaming with sophomore Ella Graffin (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca), Granan and Buyes.
