The weekend of Oct. 25-26, the Men's Club Soccer team headed to their Regionals tournament in New Castle, Delaware after a fantastic 6-0 season helmed by team Captain, President and Coach Logan Fischer, a third-year Marketing major at SUNY New Paltz.
Fischer has been around soccer his whole life, having started playing at the age of two-years-old and with a father who has been coaching at an elite level since Fischer was born; you could say it was in his blood.
The Men's Club Soccer team started off this season playing teams such as Army, Yale and UConn at a Division One level. With each win this season, it brought the team closer to Regionals, which also brought them closer to attempting to make it to Nationals in Arizona.
Each team that participated in the Regional tournament was guaranteed three games, with New Paltz facing UConn and UPenn on Saturday and Navy on Sunday morning. The tournament itself consisted of the 24 best club soccer teams in the Northeast.
"I was extremely impressed with the team and how they played," said Fischer of the games at Regionals, "I was very happy, the team played unbelievably."
While the team held their own against schools with full time coaches and training staff, they were unable to secure a win to push them forwards in the tournament, effectively ending their season.
Despite their loss at Regionals, the Men's Club Soccer team showed what hard work and dedication can do. Fischer devoted much of his time this semester to securing extra practice time for the team, moving them from practicing twice a week to three times a week, all while planning drills and game strategies amongst his busy schedule working with the New Paltz Fire Department and 12-hour shifts as an EMS.
Despite this busy schedule Fischer wouldn't give up his role on the team, "I love soccer, I can't stop playing. It's a huge part of my life."
Practices this semester would focus on running, skill drills and scrimmages, three times a week for roughly an hour and a half each practice. According to Fischer approximately 25-30 people would show up to each practice but only 18 could be chosen to be brought along to compete in games.
The Men's Club Soccer team will continue to play in the Spring semester with indoor soccer at the Milton Soccer Dome. If you have any questions about the team and when they meet they can be reached at
