NEW PALTZ, N.Y. – The 200-yard medley relay team of the State University of New York at New Paltz women's swimming squad set an Elting Pool record on Saturday afternoon en route to the Hawks' 92-80 win over visiting SUNY Maritime in the final dual meet of the season.
The Hawks (3-0 overall) will now prepare for the 2017 SUNYAC Championships from Feb. 16-18 held in Buffalo at Erie County Community College.
In the day's first event, the combination of freshman
Chelsea Angulas (Owego, N.Y./Owego Free Academy), junior
Megan Joseph (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge), sophomore
Jaimie Kaefer (North Bellmore, N.Y./W.C. Mepham) and sophomore
Nicole Lee (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) turned in the winning mark, a pool-record time of 1:50.30, which broke the previous standard of 1:50.89, set in 2011 by New Paltz (Yuka Suzuka/Becky Baker/Kate Genovese/Christine Rieth).
In other events, senior
Ann Fici (Hauppauge, N.Y./Hauppauge) won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:04.08 while senior
Kyrstin Gallagher (Walden, N.Y./Valley Central) took home first in the 50 free, turning in a mark of 27.61.
Sophomore
Katie Donlevy (Bayside, N.Y./The Mary Louis Academy) won the 100 fly (1:01.06) while Kaefer placed first in the 100 free with a time of 54.28. Sophomore
Degen Mariniello (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) enjoyed a first-place finish in the 500 free, touching the wall in 5:46.81.
The Hawks placed first (exhibition) in the 200 free relay as Donlevy, senior
Aimee Del Favero (Auburn, N.Y./Home School), Angulas and Lee combined for a mark of 1:39.30.
Freshman
Sarah Crespo (Hicksville, N.Y./Hicksville) won the 100 back (1:07.34, exhibition) while Angulas claimed first in the 100 breast (1:15.45, exhibition). Closing out the day's events, the Hawks won the 400 free relay behind sophomore
Kaleigh O'Halloran (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), Donlevy, Lee and Kaefer (3:38.72, exhibition).
