The first NCAA regional rankings of the 2018-19 women's basketball season were released Wednesday with the State University of New York at New Paltz women's basketball team sitting at the top of the East region at the No. 1 spot.

The Hawks (16-4 overall, 12-1 SUNYAC) are currently riding a 12-game winning streak, coming off a pair of road wins over The College at Brockport and SUNY Geneseo. They completed season sweeps against the Golden Eagles and the defending State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) champion Knights, who were ranked No. 15 in the country at the time.

With five regular season games remaining, SUNY New Paltz has collected five wins over regionally ranked opponents including SUNY Geneseo — twice — SUNY Oneonta, Vassar College and Mount Saint Mary College.

Following the No. 1 regionally ranked Hawks in the East are the Brewers, Hartwick College, SUNY Geneseo, Ithaca College, SUNY Oneonta, St. John Fisher College and Rochester Institute of Technology.
