SUNY New Paltz Men's and Women's Swimming Show Considerable Performances in Home Opener versus Cortland

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz swimming programs started off the new year with two considerable performances by both the men's and women's teams as they faced off against State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) rival, SUNY Cortland.

The SUNY New Paltz women's team won with a 138-120 point performance. Swimmers, Alex Kassian, Delilah Griger and Kelly Donlevy won first place in all of their individual events, helping the Hawks advance to the lead. The men's team fell short to Cortland 156-106, but still had some very noteworthy swims.

"I am really excited about our performance all around today. We brought great energy and were able to throw down some great swims amid our heaviest training period. I thought the meet overall was fantastic," said SUNY New Paltz head coach, Matt Distler. "Cortland always has a strong team and I love the opportunity for our swimmers to race some of the best in the conference."

The SUNY New Paltz's women's team started their day with a 200-yard medley relay victory, as the team of Griger, Kassian, Donlevy and sophomore Julia Iaboni came in first place with a final time of 1:55.82. The men's team placed third in the same event with Myles Dower, Venn Engstrom, Korey Barber and Steven Macaluso securing a time of 1:42.50. Natalia Giunta

"Our first home meet of the season went great, and we had amazing energy on deck," said junior captain Kelly Donlevy. "It was exciting to see the freshmen and sophomores finally get to race in our home pool."
