Syracuse, NY — The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced its weekly award winners Monday with junior
Maddie Gillis being named as the SUNYAC/PrestoSports Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week.
The accolade is the first for Gillis who led her team in scoring and rebounding in SUNY New Pa
ltz's lone game of the week against Smith College on Dec. 30.
Gillis posted her first double-double of her career, finishing with 15 points on an efficient 5-for-11 shooting from the field, while hitting both attempts from behind the arc and recorded a team-leading 10 rebounds. She also paced her team in assists, finishing with five, to go along with one steal in the 62-54 loss to the Pioneers.
Gillis and the Hawks are back on the court Friday and Saturday for their second road SUNYAC weekend of the season and first games of 2022 when they face SUNY Geneseo and The College at Brockport.
