SUNY New Paltz Tennis Continues Winning Streak Against SUNY Cortland

Hawks Improve to 3-0

New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was in action Saturday at home, playing SUNY Cortland in a SUNYAC contest and earned an 8-1 win.

Saturday's match was a rematch of the 2022 SUNYAC semifinal and saw a similar result as the Hawks swept the doubles and won five of six singles matches to improve to 3-0 in SUNYAC play.

"A good 8-1 win against a very resilient Cortland team," said Hawks coach Rob Bruley. "Our No. 2 doubles team led the way today with a convincing 8-2 win followed by a good 8-5 win at first doubles. Third doubles had to battle it out in a tough match up but stayed strong and won 8-6. Going three points up into the single matches Anya Barteck led the way following up her strong performance in the second doubles spot winning 6-2, 6-1. Anya played the perfect match, staying strong in the rally points and closing in with some aggressive play on the baseline and at the net. I was pleased by the way everyone stayed patient and waited for our opportunities to attack. Our level of consistency was also shown in a match were that we had to hit a lot of balls in long rally points."

The Hawks will return next weekend on Sept. 24, to host the New Paltz Invitational at 10 a.m. on the North Tennis Courts.
