Syracuse, NY —The State University of New York Athletic Conference announced its weekly award winners Monday with Hawks junior guard/forward
Brianna Fitzgerald earning her second weekly honor after a career performance this past weekend.
In a pivotal matchup against second-place SUNY Cortland, Fitzgerald had her best game of her collegiate career putting up a 31-point performance in a 64-46 win that helped her team to a two-game lead over the Red Dragons.
Fitzgerald shot 11-for-24 from the field while adding seven rebounds, a team-high four assists, one steal and two blocks while becoming just the sixth Hawk ever to eclipse the 30-point mark with her 31 points fifth most in single-game history.
A day prior, Fitzgerald was only needed for 15 minutes in a rout of Oswego State and totaled a game-high 20 points, shooting an efficient 7-for-9 from the floor and a perfect 2-for-2 from 3-point range, while adding five rebounds and a game-high four steals as SUNY New Paltz rolled to a 71-43 win.
Fitzgerald currently leads all of SUNYAC in points scored with 301, averaging 14.3 per game thus far, is ranked fifth in total rebounds (151), averaging 7.2 a contest, and is third in assists (61), ninth in blocks (17) and first in steals (47).
She and the Hawks conclude their last regular season home weekend Friday and Saturday against Geneseo and Brockport, respectively, with the opportunity to lock up the top seed in the SUNYAC Tournament for the third time in four seasons.
