Fredonia, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz fell to Fredonia on the road Friday, 9-6.
The two teams were knotted at two and then three after two innings with the Hawks taking the lead with a run in the fourth.
Mike Ascanio got the inning started with a leadoff single and was moved over on a sacrifice by
Michael Boccarossa and a passed ball with
Matt Sarni then bringing him home on a groundout to second.
The Blue Devils re-took the lead in the sixth, going up 6-4. SUNY New Paltz stemmed a comeback in the seventh instigated by a leadoff single from Sarni.
Tommy Kreider followed with a base hit with
Nick Harvey loading the bases on a fielder's choice sacrifice. Ristano gave the Hawks a run on a sacrifice fly with
Christopher Sais following up with an RBI base hit to score Kreider and tying the game at sixes.
A two-out RBI single helped bring a run home from third in the bottom half for Fredonia, which regained the advantage at 7-6 before adding insurance runs in the eighth to solidify the win.
SUNY New Paltz dropped to 10-23 overall and 0-13 in the SUNYAC, while the Blue Devils improved to 6-23 and 1-12 in the SUNYAC.
Shane Linett was given the loss for SUNY New Paltz. Sarni and Sais each had two hits for the Hawks, combining for a run and three RBI. Kreider went 1-for-3 with two runs and two walks, while
Nick Harvey registered a double and a run.
SUNY New Paltz faces the Blue Devils Saturday in a doubleheader to conclude its three-game series starting at 11 a.m.
