Poughkeepsie, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz lost its second game of the 2024-25 season Tuesday night on the road against Vassar, 77-52.
The Hawks couldn't overcome an early 20-6 first quarter deficit as it never led in the game. SUNY New Paltz struggled gaining momentum offensively, shooting 28.1 percent from the field but netted nine of its 18 makes from 3-point range. The Brewers, in turn, shot more than 50 percent from the floor while scoring 42 of their 77 points in the paint. Vassar held the advantage on the boards as well, out-rebounding the Hawks, 46-32.
SUNY New Paltz trailed by as many as 29 late in the second quarter with a 3-pointer by
Caitlin Mullen cutting the score, 42-16 at the half.
Sierra Carter hit another from behind the arc with three minutes to go in the third to bring the deficit to 22 but the Hawks couldn't tighten the score closer as the Brewers kept the cushion at 20-plus for the rest of the game.
The offense was spread around for SUNY New Paltz with 11 different players registering at least a basket.
Hannah Vanderzee had six points with nine rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Abby Korzekwinski also tallied six points with two rebounds and two assists.
Olivia Ventre, Carter,
Grace Cozzens, and Mullen all finished with six points.
SUNY New Paltz has more than a week off before its next contest, going on the road to face Ithaca Nov. 23 at 2 p.m.
