SUNY New Paltz Tennis Repeat as SUNYAC Champions

Hawks defeat Geneseo for ninth conference crown

Binghamton, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz women's tennis team was on the road again today for the Championship Match of the SUNYAC tournament. The Hawks were looking to defend their 2023 SUNYAC title against SUNY Geneseo. The Hawks defeated the Knights 5-0 to repeat as conference champions remain unbeaten in SUNYAC play for two consecutive seasons. The Hawks will now play in the NCAA Tournament by virtue of their conference championship win. SUNY New Paltz amassed seven of nine places on the All-Tournament team including Sophomore Justine Stanejko being selected tournament most valuable player.

"The championship started with three very strong doubles wins. With our first and third doubles teams convincingly bringing home our doubles point. Our number two doubles team, Onalee Batcheller and Isabel van der Veen, had a slow start but built-up pressure on the Geneseo doubles team to come out winners 8-5 securing all three doubles points. New Paltz now only needing two points out of the six singles matches, we started off really strong with Justine Stanejko winning 6-0,6-0 and the championship was clinched by our senior captain Tatiana Barnett winning 6-0,6-0 as well. Clinching back-to-back conference wins and our ninth SUNYAC championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament," said Coach Rob Bruley
