SUNY New Paltz Tennis Sweeps Plattsburgh in SUNYAC Semifinal

Binghamton, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz tennis beat SUNY Plattsburgh in the Semifinal round of the SUNYAC Championship Friday in Binghamton.
 
"We played solid tennis today" says senior captain Isabel van der Veen. "Our main focus was to play our game and just hit one more ball than our opponent. That is what all of us did and it clearly paid off! I'm super proud of how everyone played and am excited to keep this momentum up tomorrow!"
 
Doubles: Justine Stanejko and Isabel van der Veen swept their doubles match with a 6-0 set. Sydney Sladicka and Angelica Gabriel won their match 5-1, calling the match before the final sixth point. Olivia Kunz and Nina Genzone played third doubles also sweeping their match 6-0.
 
Singles: Stanejko won her first singles match 6-1 and was in the process of her set when the match was called due to major decision. Sladicka and van der Veen also called their matches early due to major decision. Sladicka earned the first set 6-1 and was in the process of winning the second 2-1. Van der veen won her first set 6-0 and was leading the second 3-1. 
 
Amirah Alston won her match, sweeping both sets 6-0. Kunz won her first set 6-0 and won her second 6-1. Gabirel won her first set 6-0 and her second 6-1, securing the win for the Hawks. 
 
"Our preparation playing really strong teams paid off in this semifinal with an extremely strong showing in both doubles and singles play" said Coach Rob Bruley. "The team is looking forward in defending our conference championship tomorrow and will be ready to play."
 
"I'm super proud of how this team has fought all season" says van der Veen. "Coach always says we have a target on our back and always have to be ready for a fight and that is what we have been doing. I'm super excited to advance to the finals again for my last year and can't wait to see what we do tomorrow!"
 
The Hawks will to the court's tomorrow in the SUNYAC Championship against Oswego State at 1p.m. in Binghamton, New York.
