Annandale, NY – The State University of New York at New Paltz Baseball defeated Bard College 12-2 Wednesday. The Hawks improve to 24-13 overall and remain at 11-4 in conference play.
Austin Barrett started on the mound for SUNY New Paltz pitching 4.0 innings. Barrett let up three hits, one walk, no runs and struck three batters across the 15 batters faced.
Anthony Pericolosi singled through the left side earning the first base of the game before stealing second.
Michael Ascanio singled to left field and was tagged out at second but brought Pericolosi home for the first run of the game.
Ryan Mackle led off in the top of the second with a walk.
Fabian Apicella singled to second base and Mackle advanced to third. Apicella stole second and Mackle stole home. Apicella advanced to third on a wild pitch but was left on base.
Tommy Kreider doubled to right field in the top of the second and advanced to second as Ascanio was tagged out.
Dillon Ristano singled to center field batting in Kreider.
Mackle got the ball rolling in the fourth inning with a single through the left side. Apicella singled and advanced to second on a throw. With Mackle on third,
Alex Ouellette grounded out to the shortstop earning an RBI as Mackle came home.
Ryan Muskopf singled to center and Apicella moved into scoring position on third. Both men advanced on a passed ball. Apicella scored the fifth run of the game for the Hawks unearned. Kreider reached first on an error by the shortstop also letting Muskpof extend the lead, unearned. Kreider stole second and
Robert Gregory singled to center batting him in for run number seven.
Scott Scheppy came in to relieve Barrett in the bottom of the fifth. He pitched 2.1 innings, letting up three hits, two runs and no walks. Scheppy struck out two batters, earning his 100
th career strikeout.
Muskopf was hit by a pitch in the top of the sixth, gaining a base for the Hawks. Pericolosi singled up the middle and Muskopf advanced to third. Pericolosi then stole second and Muskopf stole home both on a wild pitch. Gregory and Ristano were walked, loading the bases.
Wallace Kirkpatrick was also walked, sending Pericolosi across home plate for the Hawks ninth run.
Muskopf hit a home run in the top of the seventh sending the Hawks into double digits, leading the Raptors 10-1.
Dylan Hayes came in to pitch for Scheppy in the bottom of the seventh. Hayes pitched 1.2 innings, letting up two hits, no runs, two walks and struck out two batters across the nine he faced.
Kreider led off in the top of the eighth with a double through the left side before stealing third. Ristano reached first on an error and advanced to second. Kreider scored unearned.
Harry Baliber was hit by a pitch, earning a base. Mackle was also hit by a pitch. Bases were loaded at the turn of the inning.
Kreider singled in the top of the ninth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Gregory was walked. Ristano singled batting Kreider in for the 12
th and final run of the game.
Dalton Rutt pitched the final inning on the mound, allowing no runs, one hit, one walk and no errors across the four batters faced.
The Hawks end their road streak and return home to host SUNYAC opponent Oneonta with a senior day double header Friday.
