New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York New Paltz earned their fifth straight 7-0 conference sweep Saturday afternoon at home against the Oswego State Lakers. With this win, the Hawk's earn the first seed in the SUNYAC conference tournament.
"An outstanding performance beating the other only undefeated team in conference to secure the #1 seed for the upcoming conference championships" said SUNY New Paltz coach Rob Bruley. "The team from top to bottom played a really smart match building up points staying aggressive and finishing individual game plans. Very proud how for the 4th year in a row we remain undefeated in the conference without dropping a set. This fall has been a great team effort, and we will keep this rolling all through the conference championships."
Doubles: The Hawks swept doubles for the fifth time in conference play. Justine Stanejko and Sam Ostranderwon their match 6-0, not letting up a single point. Patrycja Filonik and Olivia Kunz won their match 6-0 as well. Nina Genzone and Angelica Gabriel earned the final doubles win for the Hawks with a 6-3 set.
Singles: The Hawks we're on a roll with six 6-0 sets, earning two matches without letting up a point. Both Stanejko and Alex Krol won their matches 6-0 playing both great offense and defense.
Ostrander won her first set 6-1 and her second 6-0. Sydney Sladicka won her first set 6-2 and her second set 6-3. Filonik won her first set 6-1 and her second 6-0. Lula Brown-Vann won her match with a 6-3 first set and a 6-1 second set.
The Hawks will be back home Wednesday Oct 1st to host RPI at 4:00p.m. in New Paltz, NY.
