Coach Tom Hartnett completed his fourth season at the helm of the Hawks Men's and Women's Cross Country program following the team's 2025 campaign.
In 2025, he guided the men's program to their best NCAA Division III Regional Finish in program history, landing 13th overall, while coaching two top-6 and three top-15 finishes at the SUNYAC Championship Meet (Oliver Melara-Perez (2nd), Evan Miller (6th), Corbin Smith (14th)), since 2020. He additionally coached four to All-SUNYAC honors with Orquidea Briceno and Melera-Perez earning a spot in the SUNYAC Hall of Fame.
In the 2024 season, Coach Harnett led the women's team to a third place finish in the SUNYAC Championship and the mens team to a fourth place finish. Four athletes were awarded All-SUNYAC honors. Orquidea Briceno and Evan Miller earned First Team, Marcella Candlin and Gavin Bowers earned Second Team.Â
Hartnett enters his second year as the Hawks head men’s and women’s cross country coach in fall of 2023.

Before taking over the helm at SUNY New Paltz, he spent six years as the Hartwick Hawks head men’s and women’s cross country coach and five years as both their indoor and outdoor track and field programs. Prior to Hartwick, the veteran coach served in the same capacity at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Services for five years.

He was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Cross Country Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2014 while at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

Hartnett earned his bachelor’s degree from Siena College, where he was a cross country student-athlete, before capturing a master’s degree from Union Graduate College of Union University (now Clarkson University).
