Jason Friedman joined the staff in the fall of 2024 as the Team Physician for SUNY New Paltz athletics.
He is a sports medicine physician with Nuvance Health in Kingston, NY. Previously, he worked as an emergency physician at Vassar Brothers Medical Center and Northern Dutchess Hospital, and was a faculty member for the Nuvance Emergency Medicine residency program. He provides medical coverage at various events, including the New York City Marathon and the Survival of the Shawangunks triathlon, and is a member of the US Olympic team volunteer medical pool.
Dr. Friedman studied biology at Cornell University, where he ran track and cross-country, and medicine at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. He trained in emergency medicine at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ, where he served as chief resident, and completed his sports medicine fellowship at Nuvance Health in Poughkeepsie. He is board-certified in sports medicine and emergency medicine.
An avid distance runner and coach, he has placed in the top-10 at the US championships for 50 KM, 50 miles, 100 KM, 100 miles, and 24 hours. He has coached cross country at SUNY New Paltz and Yeshiva University, and has coaching certifications from USA Track and Field, the National Academy of Sport Medicine, and the United Endurance Sports Coaching Academy (UESCA). He currently coaches distance runners and ultramarathoners for Boundless Coaching.
He lives in New Paltz with his wife Jodi, their two daughters, and their goldendoodle Teddy.
