Spader placed among the top 16 in two individual events, as the Hawks took eighth out of 14 teams at the ECAC Winter Championships from Friday-Sunday at Lehman College in Bronx, N.Y. Spader touched fifth in the 1,650 freestyle (16:56.34) and added a 14th-place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:56.69). He also took 21st in the 200 backstroke (2:10.59) and 34th (1:53.24) in the 200 freestyle. Spader contributed a leg on New Paltz’s sixth-place 800 freestyle relay (7:18.82) as well. New Paltz returns to dual-meet competition in 2014, as it squares off with Limestone College at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 6, during its annual training trip in Bradenton, Fla.
