Garafola’s Penalty-Kick Goal Propels New Paltz Past Union (N.Y.), 1-0

Box Score

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Junior midfielder Tommy Garafola's (Richmond Hill, N.Y.) penalty-kick goal in the 58th minute lifted the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (7-7-0, 3-4-0 SUNYAC) over host Union (N.Y.) College (8-4-1, 3-1-0 Liberty), 1-0, in non-conference action at College Park on Wednesday evening.

The Dutchmen had three good opportunities to net the equalizer in the latter portion of the second half, but freshman goalkeeper Conor Power (White Plains, N.Y.) was there to stamp out each of the scoring chances.

New Paltz outshot Union, 10-9, on the match and took eight corner kicks to the Dutchmen's six.

Power earned his second career shutout in just his third collegiate start, making five stops in the victory. Adam Margulies turned aside five shots in net for the Dutchmen.

The Hawks travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y., to face Skidmore College on Saturday, Oct. 16. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
