Hawks Drop Five-Set Match to Ithaca on Day 1 of Wellesley Invitational

WELLESLEY, Mass. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's volleyball team lost, 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 25-22, 24-26, 16-14), to Ithaca College Friday evening on the opening day of the Wellesley Invitational.

Junior outside hitter Melinda DiGiovanna (West Hempstead, N.Y.) paced the Hawks with 16 kills and 24 digs, both team-high totals, while freshman libero Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) collected 23 digs. Freshman setter Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y.) also contributed to the New Paltz attack with 33 assists.

The Hawks (19-7, 4-0 SUNYAC) look to rebound tomorrow when they take on Endicott College at noon before squaring off with host Wellesley College at 4 p.m. Both matches round out New Paltz's Wellesley Invitational slate.
