Men’s Soccer Ends Season with 0-0 Stalemate against RPI

Box Score

TROY, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (8-9-1) battled the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (8-4-4) to a 0-0 tie Wednesday evening at East Campus Stadium in non-conference action. The tilt served as the Hawks' season finale.

RPI outshot New Paltz on the contest, 19-11, but the Hawks put five shots on frame to the Engineers' three.

Freshman goalkeeper Conor Power (White Plains, N.Y.) continued to show promise in net, notching his fourth shutout of the year by making three saves. Power finished the season with a stellar .866 save percentage and held the opposition to a microscopic 0.67 goals-against average in eight games of action.

Alex Penny earned his eighth shutout of the year for RPI, coming up with a match-high five stops.

Senior forward Dave Gardiner (Malta, N.Y.) took three shots, one of which was on target, to pace the Hawk attack. Benjamin Poser rattled off five shots for the Engineers, which served as the game-high total.

New Paltz closes out the season at 8-9-1 overall and 4-5-0 in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC). The Hawks tied for sixth in the conference standings but did not qualify for the six-team SUNYAC Tournament. SUNY Cortland made the tournament as the No. 6 seed, holding the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Hawks.

The squad's eight wins are the most achieved by a New Paltz men's soccer team since the Hawks went 12-10-0 in 2004.
