Hawks Defeat Bard, 3-0, in Non-Conference Action

Box Score

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (7-8-3) needed just eight shots to net three goals, as the Hawks blanked non-conference Bard College (9-8) Thursday evening at Ferrari Soccer Field by a count of 3-0.

On the contest, New Paltz outshot Bard by an 8-3 margin and took two corner kicks to the Raptors' zero.

Sophomore forward Shelby Kondelka (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) finished the game with two goals, recording her seventh and eighth markers of the season.

Kondelka opened scoring in the eighth minute, using a pass from sophomore forward Samantha Abravanel (Islip, N.Y.) to find the back of the net. Kondelka would strike again at the 70:58 mark, directing a feed from senior midfielder Rebecca Devlin (Staten Island, N.Y.) into the goal. Senior defender Vanessa Rogers (Otisville, N.Y.) tacked on an insurance goal for the Hawks, scoring unassisted on a 1-on-1 opportunity with the Raptor goalkeeper in the 85th minute.

Sophomore defender Beth Bowling (Islip, N.Y.) drew the start in net for the blue and orange, earning the first shutout of her career by making two stops. Lena James suffered the loss in between the pipes for Bard, turning aside three shots.

New Paltz plays again in two days, taking to the road to face third-seeded Buffalo State in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship Tournament play-in game on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Coyer Field in Buffalo, N.Y. The Hawks have the No. 6 seed in the tournament.
