Hawk Men’s Soccer Blanked by Plattsburgh, 3-0

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (6-7-0, 3-4-0 SUNYAC) fell, 3-0, against host SUNY Plattsburgh (10-2-1, 4-2-0 SUNYAC) Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.

Despite a close shot margin, which went 14-13 in favor of Plattsburgh, the Cardinals showed superior finishing ability, netting three goals against the Hawks.

Matt Martin opened scoring for the Cardinals in the 27th minute, cashing in on a Chris Taylor pass. Pat Shaugnessy put Plattsburgh up 2-0 in the 58th minute, finishing on a Mike Payne feed, while Matt Hamilton tacked on an insurance score in the 86th minute when he directed a pass from Taylor into the back of the goal.

Taylor's second assist made him Plattsburgh's all-time leader in the statistical category, boasting 33 on his career.

Senior forward Dave Gardiner (Malta, N.Y.) helped pace the Hawks on the attack, taking four shots, two of which were on target.

In goal for the blue and orange, freshman goalkeeper Conor Power (White Plains, N.Y.) turned aside six shots, while Andy Heighington kept a clean sheet with six stops for Plattsburgh.

New Paltz travels to Union (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, Oct. 13, taking on the Dutchmen in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
