Buffalo State Pulls Away Late From Hawks

Box Score BUFFALO, NY- The New Paltz men's basketball fell to the Bengals from Buffalo State Saturday evening, 83-69 in the Sports Arena.  The Bengals used a 15-3 run late in the second half to pull away from the Hawks.  New Paltz falls to 11-12 overall and 7-9 in the SUNYAC as Buffalo State improves to 9-12 overall and 7-8 in the SUNYAC.

Jayquan Anderson led the Hawks with a game-high 25 points, nine rebounds and three blocks.  Harris Wichard added 21 points and eight rebounds as Shereef Taylor chipped in with 13 points and three assists.  Oppong Agyemang had a game-high seven assists and four rebounds for the Hawks.  The Hawks return to action on Tuesday at 8 p.m. against Oswego in the Hawk Center.

Jake Simmons finished with 21 points and four steals and Antonio Samedi had a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Bengals.  Justin Mitchell chipped in with 16 points for Buffalo State.

After playing to a 15-15 tie in the first nine minutes, Buffalo State used an 8-2 spurt to get some breathing room.  The Bengals built their lead to eight at 37-29 with three minutes, 38 seconds to go in the half, but the Hawks finished strong with an 8-2 run to pull within two at the break, 39-37.  The Hawks outscored the Bengals 12-4 on fast break points.

In the second half, the Hawks took their first lead in the half on a Taylor three-pointer with 13 minutes, 11 seconds remaining.  Buffalo State responded with a quick six point spurt and after a Taylor lay-up to cut the lead to three at 56-53, the Bengals went on a 15-3 run to pull away from the Hawks for the win.
