Box Score
FREDONIA, N.Y. – Sophomore forward
Shelby Kondelka's (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) goal in the 65th minute broke a scoreless tie between the State University of New York at New Paltz women's soccer team (2-6-1, 1-2-0 SUNYAC) and SUNY Fredonia (4-5-0, 0-3-0 SUNYAC) on Saturday afternoon at University Stadium in Fredonia, N.Y. That lead would stand up, as the Hawks downed the Blue Devils, 1-0, on their home turf in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action.
The Hawks mustered just one shot in the first half, while Fredonia fired off nine. The blue and orange, however, locked down the Blue Devils, preventing them from reaching the scoreboard.
Kondelka's goal, her team-leading third of the year, stunned a Fredonia defense that had done well at quelling the Hawk attack in the first stanza. New Paltz weathered down the Blue Devil back line in the second half, taking five more shots than it had in the first 45 minutes.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Stephanie Vega (Oceanside, N.Y.) kept a clean sheet, making nine saves in between the pipes for New Paltz. Saturday's victory marked her third shutout of the year.
Kayleigh Forger sustained the defeat, turning away two shots in net for Fredonia.
On the afternoon, the Blue Devils outshot the Hawks, 21-7, while both sides had two corner-kick opportunities.
The Hawks look forward to their return to Alumni Field on Wednesday, Sept. 29, opening up a six-game home stand. On Wednesday, New Paltz contests Manhattanville College at 4 p.m.
