Men's Swimming Drops Pair In Season Opener At Ithaca

ITHACA, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's swimming team (0-2) opened the 2011-12 campaign with a pair of dual meet losses to SUNY Fredonia (1-1), 148-139, and Ithaca College (2-0), 233-60, at the Ithaca Invitational on Saturday afternoon.  Senior Pete Nastasi (Monroe, N.Y./Monroe-Woodbury) raced to a first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.55 for the lone top result of the day.

Freshman Lucas Rusinak (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) made a splash in his college debut as he finished second in the 1000 freestyle (10:27.71) and third in the 500 freestyle (5:05.16).  Senior Marc Battisti (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) logged the other second-place finish for the Hawks in the 200 individual medley after touching the wall in 2:09.64.

Senior Corey Lomas (Wilbraham, MA / Minnechaug Regional) placed third in the 100 freestyle (49.88), and later swam the anchor leg of the third-place 200 freestyle relay that consisted of fellow seniors Jeremy Borrelli (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal), Jesse Sweeney (East Lyme, Conn./East Lyme), and Ray Amato (Scotia, N.Y./Burnt Hills) with a time of 1:30.44.

The Hawks will next compete at the Union Relays in Schenectady on Saturday, Oct. 29.
