Carrie Hack (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) earned the 1,000th dig of her young career, as she entered the evening with 985 to her credit.
The Hawks outhit the Brewers by a .212-to-.135 margin during the contest, and Vassar was done in by seven service errors as well. Both teams totaled six blocks.
New Paltz hit .212 in the first set to Vassar's -.031, as the Hawks established a 6-1 lead and never looked back, coming away with a 25-14 victory in the first frame. Down 21-17 in the second set, the Brewers called a timeout after New Paltz had outscored them 5-1 following a 16-all tie. Vassar would go on to score eight of the frame's final nine points, which leveled the overall match score at one set apiece.
In the third set, the lead changed hands five times, and the score was tied on 11 occasions. New Paltz, however, took control midway through the frame and cruised to a 25-17 victory. Junior middle hitter
Laura Stanhewicz (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) had a large role in the team's tear, as she accounted for four kills in the match's final nine points, including back-to-back kills that pushed the score to 20-16. The Hawks outlasted the Brewers in the fourth set, hanging on for a 25-21 triumph in what wound up being the final stanza. Vassar's Amy Bavosa landed a kill to bring the score within two at 23-21, but a Brewer service error and a kill by junior outside hitter
Michelle Jacobson (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) put the game on ice.

Dana Vosilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa) tied for the match-high in kills with 14 each, while sophomore setter
Marissa King (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy) handed out 37 assists. Vosilla patrolled the net defensively, too, as she piled up five block assists. Senior outside hitter
Melinda DiGiovanna (West Hempstead, N.Y./West Hempstead) registered a double-double with 12 kills and a match-high 20 digs, while King completed her double-double with 12 digs to complement her gaudy assist total. Hack finished the night with exactly 15 digs, which was the total she needed to reach 1,000 for her career in the statistical category.
For Vassar, Bavosa keyed the attack with 12 kills, while Hilary Koenigs distributed 38 assists. Jessie Ditmore (13), Marie Pitre (13), Bavosa (11) and Koenigs (10) all boasted double-digit dig totals, while Clara Cardillo and Chloe McGuire each came off the bench and provided three block assists apiece. Off the serve, Pitre floored a match-high four service aces.
New Paltz completes its regular-season slate on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29, at the Skidmore Tournament in Saratoga Springs, N.Y. The Hawks meet up with SUNY Plattsburgh and Baruch College on Friday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively, before taking on Union (N.Y.) College and host Skidmore College at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, respectively.
