Box Score Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.
– Vassar College's Ross Macklin scored a hat trick in the second half, leading the Brewers (4-1-1) to a 3-0 victory over the State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (3-3-0) Tuesday afternoon at Gordon Field in non-conference action.

Macklin found the back of the net first at 46:05, ripping a hard shot from the right flank that hit the crossbar and went into the goal. He scored unassisted just four minutes later from long range, and at 71:06, he converted a penalty kick to complete the hat trick.

Both teams were scoreless in the first half, with each team taking seven shots. On the contest, Vassar outshot New Paltz, 19-11.

Ryan Grimme kept a clean sheet in between the posts for the Brewers, making five stops, while sophomore goalkeeper Conor Power (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) turned aside three shots in the losing effort.

Offensively for the Hawks, senior midfielder/forward Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) uncorked a team-high four shots, one of which was on goal.

New Paltz contests Union (N.Y.) College next on Saturday, Sept. 17, which will mark the 2011 home opener for the Hawks.
