Box Score Box Score

CORTLAND, N.Y. – The State University of New York at New Paltz men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-0-1 SUNYAC) tied SUNY Cortland (1-3-4, 0-0-1 SUNYAC), 2-2, in Cortland, N.Y., to open up State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action on Friday afternoon.

Senior midfielder Michael Santalesa (New Hyde Park, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) notched his first goal of the year to open the scoring in a back-and-forth affair with a one-timer in the 19th minute off passes from senior midfielder Joe Emberger (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) and senior midfielder/forward Tommy Garafola (Richmond Hill, N.Y./St. Francis Prep). It only took 10 minutes into the second half for the Red Dragons to take the lead thanks to goals by Steffen Jude and Lukas Wear. Max Schmitt and Andrew Troisi assisted Jude's and Wear's goals, respectively.

Freshman Alec Johnson (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa) beat goalkeeper Tim Beauvias inside the right post in the 57th minute, one-timing a pass from junior defender Nicholas DiPaola (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) to even the score.

The Hawks were able to outshoot Cortland, 26-12, but were unable to break the tie. Of those 26 shots, half were on frame. Goalkeeper Tim Beauvias was brilliant for the Red Dragons as he made 11 saves, including eight in the second half and overtime periods. Sophomore goalkeeper Conor Power (White Plains, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) made two stops in net for the Hawks.

New Paltz will look to add to the win column, as it continues SUNYAC action tomorrow afternoon in Oswego, N.Y., to take on the Lakers of SUNY Oswego.
